A Wine Walk, an Alcohol-Free Bottle Shop, and a Haunted House: October on Burien's SW 152nd Street

October 8, 2026

Two businesses now share 636 SW 152nd St., Suite E. Dry Spell, a specialty bottle shop where every drink is non-alcoholic, has moved from its pop-up near BECU into the back of Growing Crazy, an indoor plant shop. Each business keeps its own checkout counter and its own staff. Sharing one storefront like this fits the rest of the month downtown. In September, most of Burien's big events happened in Town Square and along the street. For the rest of October, nearly everything on the calendar happens behind a shop door.

September happened outside

Last month's events were mostly outdoors. Arts-A-Glow filled Town Square Park and downtown on Sept. 12 with light installations, performers and a night market. Art was also shown inside local businesses. B-Town Fiesta took over Town Square from noon to 8 p.m. on Sept. 27. The Brat Trot closed out the outdoor run on Oct. 3. Its 5K started at 10 a.m., and a block party ran along SW 152nd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting and ending at Town Square.

Since then, the calendar has moved indoors. None of the four events below uses the street or the square as its main venue. Each one happens inside a business.

One door, two counters

Dry Spell's move shows the shift most plainly. Ingrid Miller owns Dry Spell. The shop first opened on Feb. 24, 2026, at 540 SW 152nd St. Seven months later it has a permanent home inside Growing Crazy. The plant shop's founder, Criztill, says she first opened it in 2022.

According to the B-Town Blog's report on the move, the two shops see a lot of overlap in their customers and are already planning joint events and classes. The first is a grand re-opening party on Friday, Oct. 16, with mocktails, Plant Plinko, a Wheel of Potions and giveaways. That article lists the party from 4 to 7 p.m. The B-Town Blog's October calendar lists 4 to 6 p.m. If you plan to arrive late, plan around the earlier end time. Dry Spell's own site still showed the old 540 SW 152nd St. address in early October. Look for the Growing Crazy storefront.

The shop is set up so you can try things before committing. It offers free tastings every day, and it sells every beer and ready-to-drink mocktail as a single can or bottle, so you don't have to buy a full pack.

A wine walk held inside the shops

Six days before the Dry Spell party, the same stretch of 152nd hosts a wine walk. Burien Uncorked runs Saturday, Oct. 10, from 1 to 6 p.m. Discover Burien organizes it, and check-in is at its office at 611 SW 152nd St. The format is the same idea as the Dry Spell move. Instead of a beer garden in the square, local businesses host the wineries, so each stop is a shop you could visit on any Thursday.

A $45 ticket includes a commemorative glass, a hands-free glass holder, a map and 15 tasting tokens. Each token is a one-ounce pour. The event is 21 and over, and you need a valid photo ID at check-in. The ticket checkout page describes the pours differently, as up to 14 tastes. The difference is one ounce either way, but if you're counting pours, plan on 14.

Discover Burien calls Uncorked a sell-out event. As of Oct. 5, tickets were still on sale. The B-Town Blog says more than a dozen wineries will be pouring. Neither the winery list nor the host shops had been published by early October. That information comes on the map you get at check-in.

So in one week, the same few blocks hold a wine walk on Saturday and the opening party for an alcohol-free bottle shop the following Friday. Both events depend on shops opening their doors.

Halloween goes door to door

Boo in Burien follows the same pattern for families. It runs Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 4 p.m., and it's free with no registration. Discover Burien organizes this one too. Kids trick-or-treat at participating downtown businesses, and signs in storefront windows mark which shops are handing out candy.

The haunted house is inside an office. It runs during the same hours at the Paralyzed Veterans Association, 616 SW 152nd St., Suite B. That's a few doors down from the Dry Spell and Growing Crazy storefront, so you can trick-or-treat and visit both shops in one short walk.

The Tin Room runs a horror series

At the far end of the corridor, the Tin Room at 923 SW 152nd St. hosted the Seattle Film Festival from Oct. 1 to 4. It's spending the rest of the month on Halloween films, and it joins Boo in Burien on Oct. 24. Here is its schedule as listed:

Date Showing Time
Fri., Oct. 23 Sleepy Hollow 7–9 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 24 Boo Burien, for young trick-or-treaters noon–4 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 24 Ghost Squad 2–4 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 24 Poltergeist 7–9 p.m.
Thu., Oct. 29 An American Werewolf in London 7–9 p.m.
Fri., Oct. 30 Young Frankenstein 7–9 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 31 Hocus Pocus 2–4 p.m.
Sat., Oct. 31 The Rocky Horror Picture Show 7–9 p.m.

The schedule page doesn't show when it was last updated, so check the Tin Room's events page before you go. Oct. 24 is a full day in one place. You can trick-or-treat downtown and take the kids to the Tin Room's afternoon programs, then come back for Poltergeist that evening.

The one regular stop still outdoors

The Burien Farmers Market is still out in the open air at Burien Town Square, 480 SW 152nd St., every Thursday. Through the end of October it runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the last summer-hours market is Thursday, Oct. 29. It doesn't close for the season. The market is open every Thursday year-round, and from November through April it runs on winter hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you usually stop by after work, November means arriving two hours earlier. The market closes only if there's snow on the ground or the temperature drops below 20 degrees, and it posts signs at Town Square and on social media when that happens.

For a coffee between stops, Nelle's is at 646 SW 152nd St. Owner Nelle Reichert used to run the Three Tree Point Store. Nelle's held its ribbon cutting on April 22 and opened fully the next day. Its address puts it a few doors from the haunted house and the Dry Spell storefront.

Dry Spell and Growing Crazy moving in together, and a month of events held inside shops, show how downtown storefronts are being used this fall. If you're thinking about what those changes mean for the homes and blocks around SW 152nd, I'm always glad to compare notes over a coffee at Nelle's. Let's Connect with Dillon Chatriand.
